I had extremely high radon levels, even for Colorado Springs as our tests measured between 100 pCi/L and 130 pCi/L. With these high radon levels I wanted to use a radon abatement contractor that I felt I could trust and knew what he was doing to reduce the radon levels for me and my family. Aspen Environmental Service’s came to inspect my home and Dennis Elkins took a great deal of time to determine the most effective type of system and the location on the house where it would look the best.

He was professional and knowledgeable in the way he explained how the system would work and the process in which it would be installed. He answered any question I had in a courteous thorough manner that was easy to understand and seemed genuinely concerned with our radon problem. This convinced us to use him instead of other radon mitigation contractors who did not appear to have the integrity that Dennis has.

They were on time and installed a great looking system on schedule. I have seen other systems and none compare to the appearance of the one Aspen Environmental Services’ installed on our home. They did not make a mess yet cleaned up in detail behind themselves inside and out. The system they installed reduced our unusually high radon levels from above 100 pCi/L to less than 1.0 pCi/L.

Last year we bought a home in West Pueblo. At the suggestion of our Realtor, we had a radon test done. It was 19, which is very high. The top company recommended for the best price, most knowledgeable and proven record of results was Aspen Environmental. They ranked at the top of the list. Dennis spent a day covering the crawl space with a special plastic and lead-out lines to the eradication unit. It runs for pennies a day, is very quiet, and took it out of the house in four days. The home inspector tested it and yes, it went below 1.0.  

This is a gas you don't want to breathe. I read online about all the systems in Colorado Springs and Pueblo: their cost, follow up, guarantees, knowledge of the future, resale inspections (the info that a property has radon stays on the record if you try to sell later on), and the perfect install. Aspen filled the whole list of questions, and now that the exhaust pipe is painted to match their house, we don't really notice it. Our neighbors are doing the same; they do not want it in the house.

Don't buy a home without a test. Call Dennis and let the testing tell the tale. You don't want a cancer-causing gas in the home, period. Be sure you are dealing with a person that can really take this out of the basement. This is your final objective: that the company you hire will put in the best system for your style of home. Also, they will be back to take care of any problems. A true, time tested, radon specialist. I highly recommend Dennis and his company. Great service.

In the summer of 2006, my home rang the “radon” bell, weighing in at over 5 on two successive tests. My next-door neighbor also scored high and had his home equipped with a radon mitigation system provided by Dennis Elkins of Aspen Environmental Services, Inc. Based on his recommendation and my personally observing the work done, I selected Aspen Environmental Services to handle the task of radon remediation for my home. Additionally, my son’s family lives in Castle Rock and also had a high radon level (7.7 pCi/L). That being the case, I had a radon mitigation system installed by Dennis at my son’s home as well.

Each of these systems was specifically designed and constructed for the two differing homes. My home has a perimeter drain to which he installed a fan to provide a vacuum thereby significantly reducing my radon exposure. Following installation, my radon level dropped to 0.9 pCi/L. In the Castle Rock project he created a sub-membrane depressurization system in the crawl space and a perimeter drain depressurization system connected to a single fan to mitigate the radon. Following installation the radon level dropped to less than 0.3 pCi/L.

I was VERY pleased with the work at both locations.  I continue to be quite satisfied and feel quite confident in recommending Aspen Environmental Services!
